The Website tripadvisor.co.uk is guide for travel. It provides variety of information about travel such as accommodations, flights and activities of destinations.
Colour
This web site’s main purpose is giving information about travel, so it is not a news website like the times or the guardian. Therefore, it does not have to be very formal, and I think it is more attractive and make visitors comfortable when the web site is not that really formal. The website ‘tripadvisor.co.uk’ has familiar ray-out to make visitors feel comfortable to search information.
Green coloured menu bar on white background seems not really fancy or showy but gives stable feeling. Also, every blue coloured text is linked to the related page. On the internet, we can find thousands of websites which have very fancy or splendid colours and design. Nowadays, it seems over competition. Loud colours and provocative designed website became a trend, because it attracts more visitors. However, this website ‘tripadvisor.co.uk’ has its own attraction, even though it is not designed fancy.
Menu structure
The best thing of this website is I think the comfortable structure. The names of menus are easy to be assumed what contents they include and the way to reach the contents is not just one way. For instance, if you want to search about hotels in London, you can either type ‘London’ in the search-bar of the menu hotel or you can click the link name ‘London hotels’ in the category of United Kingdom. In this way, all of menus (flights, holiday rentals, restaurants) have a more than one way to reach each contents, so we can see how it accommodates visitors.
At the same time, this website has great amount of accommodation reviews. I typed ‘Busan’ in search-bar to research, then it showed more than 100 of hotel list and each hotel introduction has large number of reviews which are written by tourists who experienced themselves. Left side of the page, some categories are shown to help, Check availability, Refine search, Property type, Traveller rating, Hotel class and so on. Insert the date of check-in and check-out and number of adults who intend to visit the destination in the Check available box, it shows available hotels which are matched the condition. The Refine search tap is very useful and important category. It has five choices of price of accommodations, and it provides 25 different kinds of currents to search. Traveller rating and Hotel class menus are also useful, each hotel category has the rate of all reviews’ rate and if you want to see the best hotel, you can see best rated hotel list from one clicking. Hotel class shows the class of hotels which you want to see the specific class of hotels. Right side of the page, provides a map to find hotels which are shown in the list. And we can use all of these services in only one web page.
Photos
Due to the nature of this web site, it includes a large amount of photos, but those were mostly uploaded by trevellers, I have barely seen the photos which are taken by some professional. However, in the aspect of inspiring web site visitors who have not made decision yet, the photos which were uploaded by trevellers could be better than standardized photos. Because web site visitors can receive the realistic scenery of tourist spots or states of hotels from the photos. By the way, there are countless photos in the web site, I think it is quite enough amount to look around the destinations.
I could see some very beautiful landscape photographs which were taken by professional photographers I think. The menu named Best of 2012 introduces some places for specific concept such as hotels for romance or wine destination, these include really beautiful photos and those have sharp pictures.
Stand-out feature
The stand-out feature that I noticed was the connection of hotels. I could research the available dates and some hotel managers replied all of reviews. It shows this web site is well connected with hotels. At the same time, I have barely seen the advertisements banners. When I was using the internet, too many advertisements annoyed me, it made my eyes tired quickly and not related advertisement interrupted searching to what I want to reach the contents. Some seriously annoying web sites, for example, the news sites of Korea have more than ten advertisement banners in only one page. The article placed in middle of page, and it is surrounded by advertisement banners left, right, above and below the article, I could not focus on the news because of it.
